An interdisciplinary theatre performance about cultural identity(ies) for everyone aged 12 and up.
"Fitting in or Not at all (AT)" is an interdisciplinary theatre performance about cultural identities, designed for young people aged 12 and over and adults.
This project explores identity formation and the role of belonging to a social group in developing one's own identity. The perspective of 'others' significantly influences how we experience ourselves and our place in the world. Evaluation by 'others' can lead to acceptance or rejection and reinforce power structures within a group or society. The aim of this project is to illuminate and make tangible the effects of affirmation and rejection by the dominant culture, the resulting behaviors, and their consequences.
The five theatre makers – Minju Kim, Moonjoo Kim, Jihee Kim, Hyunki Kim and the musician Este Kirchhoff – bring their diverse backgrounds, ranging from Korean-German experiences to their first contact with Germany. They explore moments of alienation in the search for identity amidst different values and norms.
The stage production is interactive and includes movement, dance, video and live music.
The project aims to bring young people and adults closer to the world of experience of migrants, to address moments of alienation, visibility and invisibility in intercultural encounters, and to promote intercultural sensitivity, empathy and critical thinking.
Premiere and three performances at the HELIOS Theater in Hamm. Further performances are planned.
