Minju Kim

Minju Kim is a performer, director, and theatre maker living in Germany. Her artistic practice moves between acting, physical theatre, and performance and is shaped by her work and training in South Korea and Germany.

She studied acting at Dongguk University in Seoul and subsequently worked with the Seoul Metropolitan Theatre and in the field of physical theatre, among others. In 2013, she moved to Germany and continued her studies in physical theatre at the Folkwang University of the Arts, graduating with an Artist Diploma in 2019. During her studies, she received scholarships from the DAAD-STIBET program.

As a performer and theatre maker, she has worked with, among others, the HELIOS Theatre, Schauspiel Essen, Consol Theatre, Tanzfuchs Productions and Armada Theatre. Her work ranges from children's and youth theatre to physical theatre and installation and performance formats.

In 2023, she co-founded the MÜN Collective with Moonjoo Kim.

At the heart of her own artistic work is the body as a carrier of memory and social experience. She is interested in how social expectations, power relations, and personal history become visible in movements, postures, and everyday physical habits.

​

In doing so, she develops a visual and physical stage language in which movement, text, image, music, and media elements converge. Her works often arise from documentary and body-based research and move between poetic condensation and concrete social reality.

In 2024, she developed and staged Fitting in or Not at All with MÜN Kollektiv, a physical theatre production about belonging, migration and adaptation.

​

In 2026, she will direct the new production Not OK – The Female Marked Body, which emerged from several weeks of artistic research in Germany and South Korea. The work examines how societal notions of femininity, self-control, and memory continue to have an impact on the body.
